Luella High School senior Meet Patel earned the highest SAT score out of public and private school seniors throughout Henry County.
For that accomplishment, he earned county STAR Student status, celebrated at a recent annual banquet held by the Henry County Chamber of Commerce at Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Stockbridge.
According to a news release, Patel is now up for a regional award in the 60th anniversary Student Teacher Achievement Recognition program, sponsored by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators foundation, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and the Georgia Department of Education.
Patel owns a 4.54 grade point average and is pondering Yale and Harvard universities among his choices to study evolutionary genetics, the release stated.
Each STAR student picks a teacher who influenced his or her studies the most.
Patel chose math teacher Dean Goldgar, who said he was honored.
“It means that I’ve made a difference in a young person’s life,” Goldgar said in a statement. “It’s definitely nice to know I have helped inspire a student to be as successful as they can be.”
The regional competition is March 20, followed by the state competition April 23.
