Drop box instructions

Instructions for use on a prescription medicine drop box at the Union City Police Department, 5060 Union St., available around the clock for disposal of unwanted medications.

A CVS in East Point is partnering with Wellstar Health System to host a community medication take back event. On April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the CVS located at 2907 Main Street will accept liquids and pills as well as used needles with no questions asked and no forms or IDs required. Participants will also receive a free gift.

The event aims to prevent accidental poisoning, overdoses and improper use of medications and ultimately save lives by removing expired and unused medications from medicine cabinets.

For safety precautions, pack medications separate from sharp items like needles and lancets. Empty medications out of the original containers and into a sealed plastic bag. Sharps should be delivered in a closed container such as plastic bottles, milk jugs or plastic needle disposal bins/boxes. No loose sharps will be accepted.

For more information about medication safety and proper disposal, contact your local poison center at 1-800-222-1222.
