On Jan. 16, various church organizations, sororities and fraternities volunteered to serve at the city of East Point’s fifth annual MLK Day of Service event at the Jefferson Park Recreation Center.
This initiative is led each year by Councilwoman Sharon Shropshire with a commitment to give back to the community.
MLK volunteers served hot meals and provided complimentary meal bags to individuals and families in need. CPR demonstrations were conducted by the East Point Fire Department along with diabetes, blood pressure and high cholesterol checks from healthcare professionals.
There was also fun activities for the youth. Sponsors for this year’s MLK Day of Service included JenCare Senior Medical Center, Fulton Fresh, Leafy Greens Market, Kimberly Sweet Shoppe, Men of Intelligence Association, and the Atlanta Community Food Bank.
