It is almost time to ring in the New Year.

“Avoid the hectic crowds in Atlanta and still enjoy an evening packed full of excitement, as the Geranium Drop rings in 2019,” Christy Collier, tourism director for McDonough Hospitality and Tourism, said in a statement.

Mayor Billy Copeland will kick off the eighth annual New Year’s Eve event on Dec. 31 at 9:30 p.m. on the McDonough Square, 5 Griffin St.

Collier said it is a “unique and fun way” to celebrate the New Year with friends, family and neighbors.

Admission is free.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

The entertainment lineup will include live music by The Chi Town Transit Authority and Weston Forbes as DJ by Elite Entertainment.

A brightly lit globe covered in McDonough’s signature flower will drop at midnight.

Downtown restaurants will be open with dinner and drink specials.

Choices include Macon Street Tacos, Kirby G’s, Pasta Max, PJ’s Cafe, Holy Smoke BBQ and Queen Bee Coffee Co.

Some may require advance reservations.
