Livable Buckhead, a nonprofit whose mission includes adding more greenspace to the community, recently hosted its fifth annual Park(ing) Day at the Lenox Square mall parking lot on Peachtree Road in Buckhead. At the event, some of Atlanta’s most creative minds transformed 40 Lenox parking spaces into a patchwork of popup mini-parks for one of the Southeast’s largest Park(ing) Day celebrations. Based on attendees’ votes, the awards handed out were: People’s Choice (Collins Cooper Carusi for its pollinator garden with teas and lemonade flavored using locally sourced honey collected by an employee), Meanest Greenest (Beck for its outdoor gaming area made entirely from upcycled materials collected by the Center for Hard-to-Recycle Materials), Most Buckhead (Copiana for its aereponic hanging gardens), Most Creative (Urban Enterprises for its tattoo parlor hangout) and Most WTF?! (The Hoog for its a vintage Airstream trailer popup meeting space). Above from left, Lindsay Wegener (owner of Poppy’s and an Atlanta Speech School parent), Whitney Phippen, Sarah Gary, Stephanie Johnson, Emily Hertz and Hillary Shaw gather at the event.
