Two-time Olympian Nei Kuan Chia, a Sandy Springs resident, recently joined local swimmers from the Ansley Sharks summer league team at the Ansley Park Lap-A-Thon, a fundraiser benefiting Swim Across America-Atlanta. About 75 swimmers swam in the event to raise money for pediatric cancer research at the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The swimmers enjoyed posing for photos and getting swim caps autographed by Chia, who competed in the 1996 (Atlanta) and 2000 (Sydney) Olympics in the butterfly. He still competes in masters swimming events and is traveling to South Korea this summer to compete with a national team. In recognition of raising the highest donation of $5,000 out of 12 pool swims last summer, the Ansley Sharks team enjoyed a special donut and bagel party from Swim Across America-Atlanta. The team will also participate in the organization’s main open water event Sept. 28 at Lake Lanier. For more information, visit http://bit.ly/2KVoWrH.
