The Journey Awards could be the launching pad to stardom for some of the world’s rising, but as yet undiscovered, artistic talent.
The honors are hosted by The Journey, a west Midtown-based company that scours the planet for artistic talent and hosts events and competitions to help support those individuals through investments, advice and marketing. The Journey Awards, also called the Journey Weekend Extravaganza, are scheduled for July 1 through 6.
According to a news release, the extravaganza will include talent competitions during the day, celebrity red carpet after-parties at night and, as a finale, The Journey Awards July 6 at 6 p.m. at the Buckhead Theatre.
“The purpose of the Journey Weekend is to help jump-start the careers of aspiring dreamers who often lack the right guidance. During these activities, we want to offer people an exciting and well-choreographed experience. The industry is in dire need of direction, and I am confident that this movement will bring back quality entertainment," The Journey founder Jeff Tago said in a news release.
Competitors will vie for prizes, cash and contracts worth up to $250,000.
The after-parties include The Garden of Eden, a fantasy-themed event hosted by DJ Babey Drew of Power 96.1 radio July 3, and the Brawl for a Cause fundraiser, an “Ocean's 14”-themed casino night soiree hosted by Brawl for a Cause Foundation founder Matt Thomas July 5. Both will take place at the Tago International Center in west Midtown.
“We have this volunteer army of ‘rock stars’ that if we were a for-profit, we could never afford this level of talent and hard work and passion,” Thomas, a Westminster graduate, said in a statement. “But because of who they are and what they believe in, they generously give their time, their effort and all of their talent to make Brawl for a Cause come alive, to be able to train, equip and inspire these everyday people to fight for what they believe in and be able to empower the type of brawlers or heroes that actually have the capacity to change the world. So if you come on Friday, July 5 to our ‘Oceans 14’ casino night party, you’ll meet a lot of the Brawl team and you’ll meet a lot of former Brawlers.
“I’d be surprised if you weren’t inspired by the people you’re around on July 5. … We’ll have casino games, food, raffle prizes and a silent auction, all the while live entertainment makes this an unforgettable night that you won’t want to miss.”
However, the big prizes will be awarded July 6 when The Journey organizers host their annual awards ceremony. This star-studded event will be hosted by celebrity guests such as Miss USA Sarah Rose Summers, supermodel Mario Rodriguez, celebrity model Nyakim Gatwech, Brockett Parsons, DJ Nabs, DJ Stormy and many more celebrities, social influencers, VIPs and others.
“I’m Sarah Rose Summers. Miss USA 2018 is what many people widely know me for, but I’m much more than that,” Summers said in a video promoting the awards event. “My journey to becoming Miss USA is slightly unique. I think all of our journeys, obviously, are unique for us.
“But for me, I never even expected or spoke into existence the possibility of me becoming Miss USA. It was always one of my dreams to compete on the Miss USA stage, honestly, since I was about 12 years old, it was my dream, (growing up in) Nebraska.”
The purpose of the Journey Awards is also to honor those individuals or entities that have an inspiring journey and are making a positive impact in the lives of others, the release stated.
