Qualifying for the Sept. 17 District 2 Atlanta Board of Education special election has been set.
It will take place July 8 through 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day, and the qualifying fee is $444, according to a May 14 letter from Atlanta Municipal Clerk Foris Webb III, who also acts as the city’s election superintendent.
Byron Amos vacated the post in January to run in a March 19 special election for the District 3 Atlanta City Council seat, which had been vacant since incumbent Ivory Lee Young Jr. died of cancer in November. Amos lost to Antonio Brown in an April 16 special runoff election.
At its May 6 meeting, the council voted to authorize the mayor to enter into a contract with Fulton County to conduct the District 2 special election Sept. 17, and if necessary, to conduct a special runoff election to be held Oct. 15 (Legislative Reference No. 19-O-1144).
