Quonset hut fire 1 after

The remnants of the Quonset hut that served as the Chastain Park Conservancy’s office on the park’s grounds in Buckhead are shown Jan. 5, the day after a fire destroyed it. The outdoor pavilion to the left of the hut sustained only minimal damage in the fire.

The Chastain Park Conservancy has set up an online fundraising campaign to raise money to rebuild its headquarters after a Friday fire destroyed the Quonset hut that served in that role.

The conservancy is a nonprofit that maintains and protects the Buckhead park.

In an email to supporters and the media Tuesday, the organization asked for donations to help rebuild the conservancy’s office, through a new Restore Chastain campaign. The conservancy has set up a Go Fund Me webpage to raise $50,000. As of Wednesday morning, it had generated $8,545.

Rosa McHugh, the conservancy's executive director, said there were no injuries and all the animals living on its grounds, including chickens, a goat and a cat, were rescued. But she also said the building is a total loss.
