Man & Woman of Year group

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Georgia chapter’s 2018 candidates for Man & Woman of the Year, standing with the Boy & Girl of the Year Miles Glee and Peyton Greene (front), are announced at a kickoff event at the Buckhead Theatre.

Each year, in communities across the country, dynamic and passionate candidates engage in a spirited fundraising competition to raise critical funds for blood cancer research for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through the Man & Woman of the Year campaign. At a kickoff event March 30 at the Buckhead Theatre, the society’s Georgia chapter celebrated these individuals who will compete to earn the titles of Man and Woman of the Year.

The candidates are community and business leaders who are philanthropic, ambitious, socially active, resourceful and passionate about making a difference in the lives of people suffering from blood cancers. Their relentless ambition drives them to fundraise with remarkable results. This year’s candidate class includes 22 community leaders and one All-Star candidate who as a team, aim to raise over $1.5 million in 10 weeks to fight blood cancer. The All-Star candidate will compete at a national level against other All Stars from across the nation.

“The Man & Women of the Year campaign is a great way for candidates to network with other influential people in their communities while also providing assistance and hope to thousands of blood cancer patients,” Piper Medcalf, the chapter’s executive director, said in a news release. “Candidates showcase their fundraising and community outreach skills as well as their commitment to the cause.”

The Man & Woman of the Year campaign will culminate at the Grand Finale Gala June 9 from 6 to 11 p.m. at the InterContinental Hotel in Buckhead. The candidates who raise the most funds will be awarded the Man & Woman of the Year titles, respectively.
