For the second straight year, the Northside Hospital health care system, including its Sandy Springs flagship hospital, has been honored for being among the best hospitals in the nation for patient experience.

Healthgrades, an online resource for information about physicians and hospitals, May 14 announced the recipients of their 2019 Outstanding Patient Experience Award. Northside’s Sandy Springs, Cherokee County (Canton) and Forsyth (Cumming) hospitals each were named to the list, which includes only seven Georgia hospitals total. All three Northside hospitals were named to the list in 2018.

No other local hospitals were named to this year’s list. Also, no local hospitals were among the 12 in Georgia to earn Healthgrades’ Patient Safety Excellence Award.

Healthgrades analyzed 3,449 hospitals across the United States, with 434 hospitals receiving the Outstanding Patient Experience Award, representing the top 15% of hospitals in the nation for patient experience.

“Protecting patient safety and providing high-quality patient care are at the forefront of everything we do at Northside,” Janis Dubow, Northside’s chief nursing officer and vice president of patient care, said in a news release. “It is a great honor and a great responsibility to be recognized for providing an outstanding patient experience, and we continue maintain our commitment to doing just that.”

The Northside health care system is one of Georgia’s leading health care providers with more than 150 locations across the state, including its three acute care, state-of-the-art hospitals. Northside leads the U.S. in newborn deliveries and is among the state’s top providers of cancer care and surgical services. Northside has more than 2,800 physicians and 15,000 employees who serve 3 million patient visits annually across a full range of medical services.
