The Holbrook Camp Meeting will celebrate its 181st year starting this weekend where organizers say families and friends alike will bring their families closer to God.

It all began in 1839 when Jessie C. Holbrook received 40 acres of land for shoeing a horse. Mr. Holbrook sold the land for $20 to local Methodists for the purpose of having a camp meeting which continues to this day.

The current historic arbor was built in 1890 using some of the materials from the earlier structures. Now 74 tents (cabins) surround the arbor as descendants of those first pioneers as well as new residents experience 10 days of traditional revival.

Speakers this year will be the Rev. Danny Bennett, the Rev. Glenn Hannigan, and the Rev. David Laycock with song leader Newt Hendrix.
