A possible annexation on Trickum Road in Woodstock is drawing concerns from Cherokee County commissioners, in part because it involves annexing two existing homes in a larger subdivision.

Developer Dossey LLC is seeking to have just under 32 acres near the Cobb County line annexed into Woodstock and build a neighborhood of 73 homes there.

The county board of commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to send their concerns to Woodstock that the county typically opposes the partial annexation of properties within a subdivision. The board is also asking the developer to donate part of the property to the county for right-of-way. The case will go before the Woodstock Planning Commission on May 6, with the Woodstock City Council scheduled to hear the case on May 24.

“It may look familiar,” Planning Manager Margaret Stallings said. “We have seen this as an annexation in 2018, and a county rezoning case in 2020, which was withdrawn, and now they’ve gone back to the annexation route with the city of Woodstock.”

Two additional pieces of property at the front of the subdivision on Wagon Trail Road were included in the annexation in order to connect the main parcel under consideration to the rest of the city. The county is normally opposed to annexing a couple of properties out of a larger subdivision to serve as connector property in an annexation case. The county has also been working to acquire right-of-way on Trickum Road as part of a road improvement project, and the main three parcels under annexation consideration were the only ones the county had not yet acquired right-of-way from.

The county also agreed to accept the de-annexation of 5.53 acres on Fincher Road northeast of Reinhardt University, if the Waleska City Council approves it. Stallings said the land was part of a larger tract, of which the remainder was still in unincorporated Cherokee County. Waleska had annexed the 5.53 acres in order to extend its water service through the area. However, the request for de-annexation would allow the heirs to an estate the land is part of to more easily divide the property amongst themselves. The case will be heard before the Waleska City Council at a future meeting.
