During its most recent round of monetary donations to area organizations, the Amicalola Electric Membership Corp. provided the Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services with a financial donation of $7,000.

Fire Chief Tim Prather said he was surprised and caught off guard by the donation.

“We did not apply for the donation,” he said. “They reached out to the fire department. Part of their round-up program is to donate a portion of those funds to the fire service serving communities that they provide electricity. So, they reached out to my office to inform me of the donation.”

Prather said the donation would go to assist members of the agency’s Fire Explorer Program as they begin to gear up for one of their annual events, joining other Fire Explorers in various competitions and educational experiences.

“The funding is earmarked for our Fire Explorer Program to assist them with the expense of their Winterfest Competition that is held in Gatlinburg each year during the month of February,” he said.
