New Atlanta Memorial Park playground opens
The city of Atlanta and the Atlanta Memorial Park Conservancy recently welcomed over 100 guests for the unveiling of the new playground at the park, located in Buckhead. The city committed $200,000 toward the project with an additional $200,000 raised by the conservancy through a combination of private donations including an anonymous donation of $100,000 and a Legacy Grant award from Park Pride. The new playground blends seamlessly into the tree-filled landscape of the park and features many fun and playful elements of playground design. It is part of the conservancy’s plan to improve the entire park.

Cutting the ribbon on the new playground were, from left, Alvin Dodson, director of the Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation’s Office of Park Design; Post 3 at-large Atlanta City Councilman Andre Dickens; Atlanta Memorial Park Conservancy Executive Director Catherine Spillman; District 8 Councilwoman Yolanda Adrean; Mayor Kasim Reed; Department of Parks and Recreation Commissioner Amy Phuong; Park Pride Executive Director Michael Halicki; Department of Watershed Management Commissioner Kishia Powell and Post 2 at-large Councilwoman Mary Norwood.
