Former Missouri State Senator Dan W. Brown (R-Rolla) passed away Tuesday evening. Null & Sons Funeral Home confirmed the death to Phelps County Focus and reported arrangements will be announced Wednesday afternoon.

The Phelps County Republican Party also announced the death Tuesday via a Facebook post which states:

“Our hearts are saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Dan Brown. He was a stalwart in the Missouri State Senate guiding our state through tough times as appropriations chair. He spent decades traversing rural Missouri as a vet caring for our large animal herds. He was tough, brilliant, and fiercely honest.

“Most importantly, we pray for his family including his wife Kathy, his son Senator Justin Brown, his daughter Danette Sherrell, and his grandchildren. They have our deepest condolences.”

Brown represented Missouri’s 16th District in the Missouri State Senate for two terms from 2011 to 2019. Prior to that, Brown served in the Missouri House of Representatives from 2008 to 2010 representing the 149th district.

Brown’s son, Justin Brown, was elected to the 16th District seat in 2018 following in his father’s footsteps.

Outside of politics, Dan Brown graduated from the University of Missouri with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. His Brown Veterinary Clinic served the Phelps County area for many decades and continues to operate at 407 West 4th Street in Rolla to this day.
