PEORIA — Former Manual High School basketball star Howard Nathan has been hospitalized, according to multiple reports.
Nathan, a former Mr. Basketball of Illinois, apparently was transported earlier this week to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center, WMBD-AM and WEEK-TV reported.
On Thursday morning, St. Francis spokeswoman Stacy Campbell told the Journal Star she was not able to release information about Nathan's condition.
Nathan was selected as Mr. Basketball in 1991, when Manual was runner-up in the Class AA state tournament. The 5-foot-10 guard averaged 20 points a game.
He later played college basketball at DePaul and what now is known as Louisiana-Monroe. In 1995-96, he played in five games for the NBA's Atlanta Hawks.
Since 2006, Nathan has been confined to a wheelchair, after a drunken driver struck his vehicle.
