Arabia Mountain’s home game against Southwest DeKalb for first place in Region 5AAAAA highlights the penultimate week of the prep football regular season.

The Rams earned a 24-14 region win over Columbia 24-14 on Oct. 14 behind touchdown passes from Joshua Campbell and Bryson Williams. Tyler Suber and Silas Butler each had a TD catch while Justin Nelson rushed for a team-high 61 yards and a touchdown as well. Rams’ kicker Malcolm Grinnell had a field goal in the win.

The Panthers picked up a 20-0 region win over Miller Grove on Oct. 14. Justin Tomlin had 338 total yards and three touchdowns, two passing and one rushing, in the victory. Francisco Hunter and Jamel Starks each had a touchdown catch. Hunter also rushed for a team-high 176 yards.

The Wolverines will look to rebound with a region contest against Lithonia on Friday. The Bulldogs picked up a 51-0 region road win at Chamblee on Oct. 14 led by a DeKalb County and school-record 375 rushing yards from Rayshard Baldwin. He earned the yardage on 16 carries and found the end zone once. Southwest DeKalb leads the lifetime series over Lithonia 13-2 and won last year’s game 33-21.

Chamblee will face Columbia on Friday in region play. The Bulldogs won last year’s game 13-6 and leads the lifetime series 6-4.

Moving to Region 4AAAAAA, Tucker looks to stay undefeated in region play with a home contest against Mount Zion on Friday. The Tigers won at Lovejoy 36-7 on Oct. 13 led by five rushing touchdowns on offense. Taurean Taylor had a team-high 88 rushing yards and a touchdown while Gerry Vaughn found the end zone twice on the ground with 67 rushing yards. Josh Vann had a 42-yard touchdown run and Darick Stephenson had a rushing TD as well. Tucker won last season’s game against Mount Zion 45-0 in the first lifetime meeting between the two schools.

Stephenson has also started the season undefeated in region play including a 21-17 home victory over Drew on Oct. 13. Darren Parker had two touchdown runs and Ryan Ingram had a TD run as well for the Jaguars. Stephenson faces ML King on Friday. The Jaguars lead the lifetime series 7-4 and won last year’s game 41-12.

Marist stayed undefeated through its first seven games of the season with a 41-6 home win over West Hall in Region 7AAAA play on Oct. 13. War Eagles’ quarterback Chase Abshier threw for 144 yards and a touchdown. Marist rushed for 255 yards as a team led by Ellis Pearson who had two TDs on the ground. Dean Johnson, Lincoln Parker and Charlie Addicks each had a rushing touchdown. Marist outgained West Hall 409-184 in total yardage.

“After a slow start in the first half, we were finally able to pull away in the second half,” War Eagles’ coach Alan Chadwick said. “Early fumbles and penalties has been an issue in several games for us this year. Our entire defense played well the entire ball game while Ryan Mannelly harassed West Hall ball carriers all game. Charlie continued his excellent play with precise blocking, and impressive runs and receptions.”

Marist hosts Chestatee in a region game on Friday. The War Eagles won last year’s contest 47-14 in the first lifetime meeting of the two programs.

St. Pius X stayed perfect in Region 8AAAA action on Oct. 13 with a 41-13 home victory over Oconee County. The Golden Lions jumped out to a 24-6 halftime lead to secure the win. Connor Egan had two rushing touchdowns while Jacob Pajer had 214 all-purpose yards and five tackles. Michael Benefield, Scott Braswell and Jason Jones each had touchdowns in the victory. St. Pius X hosts North Oconee on Friday having won all three of the previous meetings including a 42-7 victory last season.

Cedar Grove stayed undefeated this season with a 28-7 road win at Pace Academy in Region 5AAA play on Oct. 13. Darrell Neal rushed for 175 yards and a touchdown for the Saints. Defensively, Cedar Grove held the Knights to 102 total yards led by Isaiah Ratcliff’s team-high 12 tackles. Roderic Forts had two tackles for loss and Rashad Cheney had a 41-yard interception return for a touchdown.

The Saints face McNair in a region contest on Friday. Cedar Grove leads the lifetime series 10-5 and won last year’s game 64-0.

Other contests this weekend include Cross Keys hosting Pataula Charter, Druid Hills visiting Woodward Academy, Dunwoody visiting Alpharetta, Decatur hosting Jackson, Stone Mountain visiting Redan and Lakeside visiting Berkmar.
