The prep football regular season has concluded and the playoffs have begun for local programs.

Tucker assured itself a first-round home contest in the Class AAAAAA playoffs with a 62-0 Region 4AAAAAA win over Mount Zion (Jonesboro) on Oct. 27. Travon Ford threw three touchdown passes, one each to Isaiah Dunson, Josh Vann and Gerry Vaughn, for the Tigers in the win. David Davis had two rushing touchdowns and Garen McKinney returned a blocked field goal 70 yards for a touchdown. Tucker held Mount Zion to 21 yards of total offense.

The Tigers, the top seed from the region, will host Lakeside (Evans), the fourth seed from Region 3AAAAAA, in the first round on Friday.

Staying in Region 4AAAAAA, Stephenson also earned a first-round home playoff game with a 26-0 win over M.L. King on Oct. 27. Javier Morton had a 25-yard touchdown reception while teammates Ryan Ingram and Jevon Goff each had a rushing TD. Darius Perry posted three sacks and forced a fumble for the Jaguars’ defense. Similar to Tucker, Stephenson, the second seed from the region will host Heritage (Conyers), the third seed from Region 3AAAAAA, in the first round on Friday.

Cedar Grove will begin defense of its Class AAA state championship on Friday with a home contest against Adairsville, the fourth seed from Region 6AAA. The Saints secured the Region 5AAA title with a 47-0 victory over McNair on Oct. 27. Jadon Haselwood and Rashad Preston each returned interceptions for touchdowns. Haselwood also had a TD catch from Xavier Dennis. Darrell Neal and Deante Maxwell had rushing touchdowns as well. This is Cedar Grove’s fifth region title and first outright one since 1991.

Marist will be in the Class AAAA playoffs and will host a first-round match against Madison County, the fourth seed from Region 8AAAA . The War Eagles picked up a 48-30 home win over Chestatee in a Region 7AAAA game on Oct. 27 and stayed undefeated on the season. Chase Abshier threw for a game-high 202 yards and three touchdowns, one TD pass each to Matthew Gwin and John Fitzpatrick and a rushing score, in the victory. Nick Lyles had four touchdowns, three rushing and one kickoff return for Marist. Paul Stanley had 13 tackles and a pass breakup for the War Eagles’ defense.

“Offensively we played very well,” Marist coach Alan Chadwick said. “Overall we did not play as well defensively as numerous players were out with injuries. We’re still trying to improve everyday. Our players have done a good job of maintaining focus and only looking ahead to the next game on the schedule.”

St. Pius X will host a first-round contest in the Class AAAA playoffs after securing the Region 8AAAA title with a 56-21 home win over North Oconee on Oct. 27. The Golden Lions rushed for 599 yards in the win. Sam Schwaner (227 yards, three touchdowns), Scott Braswell (107 yards, two touchdowns) and QB Connor Egan (148 yards, one touchdown) were big earners on the ground. Ted Wach had 84 rushing yards and two touchdowns as well. The Golden Lions now face West Hall, the fourth seed from 7AAAA.

Arabia Mountain won the Region 5AAAAA title with a 27-14 win over Southwest DeKalb on Oct. 27. Joshua Campbell rushed for a team-high 140 yards while teammate Justin Nelson had two rushing TDs in the win. Matthew Crawford caught a touchdown pass from Bryson Williams for the Rams as well. Silas Butler caught six passes for 88 yards. Javan Watkins posted a team-high 10 tackles and Nelson intercepted a pass for Arabia Mountain. The Rams will host North Springs, the fourth seed from Region 6AAAAA on Friday.

Southwest DeKalb is also in the Class AAAAA playoffs and hosts Banneker, the third seed from Region 6AAAAA on Friday.

Staying in Region 5AAAAA, Lithonia earned 14-0 win over Miller Grove on Oct. 27. Rayshad Baldwin rushed for 163 yards and a touchdown in the win. Kevah Bryant had three catches for 101 yards and a touchdown as well for the Bulldogs.

The Wolverines did earn a spot in the postseason and will visit Jackson (Atlanta) on Friday.

Decatur concluded its season with a 28-6 home loss to Jackson (Atlanta) on Oct. 27.

Lakeside (DeKalb) earned a 46-12 road win over Berkmar in Region 7AAAAAAA action on Oct. 27. Max Guggemos rushed for 247 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. Matthew Holt had two touchdown passes as well for the Vikings.
