The postseason schedule has reached its peak with state playoffs matchups in soccer, tennis, lacrosse and baseball all currently taking place.

The Class AAAA boys’ soccer playoffs included three local teams. Druid Hills, the top seed out of Region 4AAAA, hosted Spalding, the fourth seed from Region 2AAAA, in its first-round contest on Apr. 26 and won 5-0. Druid Hills hosted Northwest Whitfield in its next match and earned a 2-1 win on May 3. The Red Devils faced Cartersville, the top seed from Region 5AAAA, in the state quarterfinals with results unavailable at press time.

St. Pius X, the second seed from Region 8AAAA, hosted Heritage (Catoosa), the third seed from Region 6AAAA, in the first round and won 7-0. St. Pius X hosted Eastside in the second round match with results unavailable at press time.

Marist is also the second seed out of its region for the boys’ soccer state playoffs. The War Eagles placed second in the Region 7AAAA standings and hosted Troup, the third seed from Region 5AAAA, in their first-round contest. Marist emerged with a 6-0 win on Apr. 26 and visited Columbus, the top seed from Region 1AAAA in its second-round match with results unavailable at press time.

Four DeKalb boys’ soccer programs qualified for the Class AAAAA state playoffs. Decatur was the second seed from Region 6AAAAA. The Bulldogs hosted Loganville, the third seed from Region 8AAAAA, to open the postseason and won the contest 4-0 on Apr. 28. Decatur visited Wayne County in the second round on May 3 and won the contest 6-0. The Bulldogs visited Clarkston, the top seed from Region 5AAAAA, in its quarterfinals’ contest with results unavailable at press time.

Cross Keys, the second seed from Region 5AAAAA, hosted Villa Rica, the third seed from Region 7AAAAA, and won 3-0. The Indians visited McIntosh, the top seed from Region 3AAAAA, in the second round with results unavailable at press time.

Arabia Mountain was the fourth seed from Region 5AAAAA and visited top-seeded Carrollton from Region 7AAAAA in the first round and fell 5-0, ending the year with seven wins. Chamblee, the third seed from Region 5AAAAA, faced Rome, the second seed from Region 7AAAAA and lost 8-7, ending the year with six wins.

In Class AAAAAA, the Tucker boys’ soccer team finished undefeated in Region 4AAAAAA play and earned a 6-2 non-region home win over Chamblee on Apr. 20. Tucker hosted Brunswick, the fourth seed from Region 2AAAAAA, in the first round and won 5-0 on Apr. 28. The Tigers hosted Allatoona in the second round with results unavailable at press time.

Stone Mountain earned the third seed out of Region 5AAA in the Class AAA playoffs and visited East Hall, the second seed from Region 7AAA, in its first-round match and fell 5-1, finishing the year with nine wins.

In girls’ soccer, Marist advanced to the second round with a 10-0 home win over Central (Carroll) on Apr. 25. The War Eagles, the top seed from Region 7AAAA, faced Northside (Columbus), the second seed from Region 1AAAA, on May 2 and won 9-0. Marist met Spalding, the top seed from Region 2AAAA, in the state quarterfinals with results unavailable at press time.

St. Pius X, the top seed from Region 8AAAA, won its first-round match 10-0 at home over Gilmer on Apr. 25. The Golden Lions hosted Mary Persons, the second seed from Region 2AAAA, in its second-round match on May 2 and emerged with a 5-0 victory. St. Pius X hosted Blessed Trinity, the second seed from Region 7AAAA, in the state quarterfinals with results unavailable at press time.

Druid Hills saw its season conclude with a 1-0 home defeat to Howard on April 25, finishing the year with eight wins.

The Class AAAAA girls’ soccer state playoffs included Decatur, the top seed from Region 6AAAAA. The Bulldogs beat Johnson (Gainesville) 6-0 in the first round and defeated Union Grove 4-0 at home on May 2. Decatur faced Whitewater, the top seed from Region 3AAAAA, in the state quarterfinals with results unavailable at press time.

Chamblee, the top seed from Region 5AAAAA, hosted Kell, the fourth seed from Region 7AAAAA, and won 7-1. The Bulldogs hosted McIntosh in its second-round match on May 2 and fell 6-0, ending its season with 13 wins.

Southwest DeKalb earned the fourth seed from Region 5AAAAA and visited Paulding County HS in the first round. The Panthers fell 10-0 and finished the year with three wins. Other matchups included Arabia Mountain losing at Rome 7-0, and Cross Keys fell to Carrollton 4-0.

Tucker and Stephenson saw their girls’ soccer teams in the Class AAAAAA playoffs with first round matches on Apr. 27. The Tigers were the top seed from its region, hosted Brunswick and won 3-2. They hosted Sequoyah in the next round and fell 10-0, ending the season with 11 wins. The third-seeded Jaguars visited Glynn Academy in the first round and fell 10-0. Lakeside visited South Forsyth in the Class AAAAAAA playoffs and lost 4-0.

Redan saw its season conclude with a 10-0 road defeat at Greater Atlanta Christian in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs. The Raiders, who were the fourth seed out of Region 5AAA, finished their year with 11 wins.

In boys’ tennis, Marist started the Class AAAA playoffs with a 4-0 home win over Cedartown in the first round. The War Eagles followed that up with a 4-0 win at home over Northside (Columbus) in the second round. Marist, the top seed from Region 7AAAA, defeated Jefferson 3-0 in the state semifinals and faced North Oconee, the top seed from Region 8AAAA, in in the state finals with results unavailable at press time.

St. Pius X won its first-round Class AAAA match at Heritage 3-0 but fell in the second round on the road against Woodward Academy 3-0 on Apr. 25. Druid Hills dropped its first-round Class AAAA match at Mary Persons.

The Class AAAAA boys’ tennis playoffs saw Decatur fall 3-0 at Buford, SW DeKalb lose 3-0 at home to East Paulding and Arabia Mountain fall 5-0 at Cass in first-round action. Chamblee picked up a 4-1 home victory over Villa Rica in the first round before seeing its season end against McIntosh in a 4-1 home defeat.

Tucker won its first-round match 5-0 over Brunswick in Class AAAAAA boys’ tennis postseason action before falling 5-0 against Creekview in the next round. Lakeside’s season ended in the first-round of the Class AAAAAAA playoffs in a 3-0 road defeat at Lambert.

Stone Mountain fell to Greater Atlanta Christian 3-0 in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs.

In girls’ tennis action, St. Pius X started the playoffs with its 3-0 home win over Northwest Whitfield in the first round and a 3-1 road victory at West Laurens in the second round. The Golden Lions, the second seed from Region 8AAAA, visited Blessed Trinity, the top seed from Region 7AAAA, in their next match and won its quarterfinals’ contest 3-1. St. Pius X visited Woodward Academy in its semifinals match and won 3-2. The Golden Lions faced North Oconee, the top seed from Region 8AAAA, in the state finals with results unavailable at press time.

Staying in the same classification, Marist won its first-round match at home over LaGrange 3-0 but fell 3-2 at Columbus in the next round. Druid Hills was also a second-round participant after winning at home over Spalding in the first round but lost in the next round at Heritage 3-0.

In Class AAAAA girls’ tennis, Chamblee defeating Woodland (Bartow) 5-0 in the first round and Bainbridge 3-0 in the second round. The Bulldogs, the top seed from Region 5AAAAA, faced Union Grove, the top seed from Region 4AAAAA, in their next contest and won 5-0, setting up a state semifinals match against Kell. Chamblee defeated the Longhorns 3-2 and faced Starr’s Mill in the state finals with results unavailable at press time.

Decatur fell at Buford 3-0, Southwest DeKalb was defeated at Carrollton 5-0 and Arabia Mountain lost at home to Rome 3-1 in first-round action.

Rounding out girls’ tennis playoff action was Tucker falling at home to Creekview 5-0 in the second round, Lakeside dropping its first-round road contest at South Forsyth 3-0 and Stone Mountain defeated at North Hall 5-0.

The state baseball playoffs began with first-round action on Apr. 28. The second-round results were unavailable at press time.

Redan hosted Fannin County and won its series 2-0. The Raiders won the first contest 4-0 behind a shutout thrown by Darius Pope who struck out nine batters. Redan dominated in the second contest with a 16-2 victory led by two RBIs each from Kelvin Smith, Hunter Todd and Latrell Wyatt. The Raiders hosted Crisp County in the second round of the Class AAA playoffs on Thursday.

In Class AAAA, Marist hosted Cedartown and reached the second round with a 2-0 series win. The War Eagles won the first contest 4-1 and the second one 7-1. “All of our seniors really stepped up and were able to provide great leadership in our preparation which also showed up in their performance,” Marist coach Michael Strickland said. The War Eagles visited Cairo in the second round. Druid Hills visited West Laurens and lost its series 2-1.

Arabia Mountain picked up a 2-1 series win over Villa Rica in the first round of the Class AAAAA playoffs. The Rams dropped the first contest 6-3 but rebounded to win the second game 11-5 by three RBIs each from Corey King and Joshua Campbell. King also struck out six batters as a pitcher in the win. Arabia Mountain won the deciding game 10-5 led three hits each from Silas Butler, King and Campbell. The Rams hosted McIntosh in the second round.

Decatur won its home series over Walnut Grove 2-1. The Bulldogs dropped the first contest 3-2 in 11 innings but rebounded to win the second contest 7-5 in 13 innings. Ollie Livingston threw eight innings and struck out 14 batters while Alex Glier and Tim Conway each had three hits in the win. Decatur won the decisive game 7-6 the next day as Conway drove in four runs to lead the offensive charge.

“Our pitching really kept us in all the games and allowed us to have a chance to compete,” Bulldogs’ coach Robby Gilbert said. “I thought our pitchers really competed hard all series long and that is a testimony to them and my pitching coach Phillip Byrd.” Decatur hosted Union Grove in the second round.

Chamblee fell at home to Kell 2-0 in its first-round series while Southwest DeKalb visited Carrollton and dropped its series 2-1.

Tucker hosted Brunswick and won the series 2-0. The Tigers hosted River Ridge in the next round. Stephenson fell at Richmond Hill 2-0 in its first-round series while Lakeside fell at Lambert 2-0 in its Class AAAAAAA first-round series.

In the first round of the Class A-AAAAA boys’ lacrosse playoffs, St. Pius X dropped its first-round match at Kell 14-3, ending its season with six wins. Marist, the top seed from Area 1, earned a 14-9 win over Whitefield Academy and hosted Greater Atlanta Christian in the second round with results unavailable at press time. Dunwoody qualified for the Class AAAAAA-AAAAAAA playoffs and saw its boys’ team visit West Forsyth in the first round with results unavailable at press time.

Girls’ lacrosse action saw Marist hosting Carrollton, St. Pius X hosting Lovett and Dunwoody visiting Milton with results unavailable at press time.
