Decatur’s home game against Riverwood in a Region 6AAAAA contest highlights the week of prep football action which sees the regular season move past its midway point.

The Bulldogs enter the contest coming off of a 48-21 region home win over Grady on Sept. 22. Riverwood also won a region contest that same day with a 41-16 road victory at Lithia Springs.

Cedar Grove improved to 5-0 on the season with a 41-10 home win over Westminster in Region 5AAA action on Sept. 22. Xavier Dennis threw two touchdown passes to Jaden Haselwood in the victory. Deante Maxwell, Devyn Smith and Demetrius Tharpe each had rushing touchdowns for the Saints. Defensively, Rashad Chaney returned an interception for a touchdown and had 14 tackles while teammate Isaiah Ratliff had an interception as well on defense.

The Saints host Towers in a region contest on Friday. Cedar Grove leads the lifetime series 15-3-1 including last year’s 28-0 victory.

Southwest DeKalb faces Chamblee in its Region 5AAAAA opener on Friday. The Panthers earned a 42-25 non-region home win over Rockdale County on Sept. 23. SW DeKalb leads the lifetime series over the Bulldogs 11-2 including last year’s 49-12 victory.

Druid Hills will face Luella in a Region 4AAAA contest on Friday. The Red Devils fell to North Clayton 12-0 in a region contest on Sept. 22. Druid Hills has dropped its previous three games to Luella including last year’s 24-0 defeat.

Lithonia faces Columbia in its Region 5AAAAA opener on Friday. The Bulldogs look to rebound from a 45-12 home loss to Westlake on Sept. 23. Lithonia trails the lifetime series to Columbia 12-5 but won last year’s game 21-7.

Staying in Region 5AAAAA, Arabia Mountain faces Miller Grove on Friday. The Rams dropped their last contest at East Coweta in a non-region game on Sept. 22. The Wolverines defeated Lakeside 18-16 in its last game on Sept. 15. Arabia Mountain leads the lifetime series over Miller Grove 2-1 including last year’s 44-6 win.

Other matchups this weekend include Stone Mountain visiting Lovett, Cross Keys traveling to North Springs, Northview visiting Parkview, St. Pius X visiting Stephens County and Redan traveling to McNair.

Marist has stayed undefeated through its first five games with a 58-0 road win at Chamblee in a non-region game on Sept. 22. The War Eagles rushed for 372 yards led by quarterback Chase Abshier’s 104 yards on six carries. It was the team’s first shutout of the season. The contest also gave Marist head coach Alan Chadwick 355 career wins which is the second-most in Georgia prep football history, passing Robert Davis.

“The Chamblee win was a good win for our team and our overall football program as we finally had the opportunity to play a great many players after a long pre-season and four very tough games,” Chadwick said. “This was the first opportunity for many of our backups and younger players to play in a game after being used as scout team players in practice for two months.” Marist is off this week.

Tucker stayed undefeated in Region 4AAAAAA play with a 44-0 victory over M.L. King on Sept. 22. Taureen Taylor rushed for a game-high 171 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries. Travon Ford completed six out of nine passes for a game-high 109 yards and two touchdown passes to Josh Vann. Defensively, the Tigers held the Lions to five yards of total offense led by Mike Harris’ five tackles for loss. Tucker is off this week.

Stephenson also kept a perfect mark in Region 4AAAAAA contests with a 38-14 home win over Mundy’s Mill on Sept. 22. Deondre Jackson had a four-yard touchdown run for the Jaguars in the victory. Other highlights for Stephenson was a touchdown run by Darren Parker, an interception returned for a touchdown by Javier Morton and a kickoff TD return by Ira Henderson. The Jaguars are off this week.
