Cedar Grove’s road contest against Pace Academy leads the action for local programs fully engaged in region play.

The Saints stayed undefeated through its first five games of the season with a 41-10 home win over Westminster in Region 5AAA action on Sept. 22. Xavier Dennis threw two touchdown passes to Jaden Haselwood in the victory. Deante Maxwell, Devyn Smith and Demetrius Tharpe each had rushing touchdowns for the Saints. Defensively, Rashad Chaney returned an interception for a touchdown and had 14 tackles while teammate Isaiah Ratliff had an interception as well. The win also increased Cedar Groves’ winning streak to 15 games which broke the previous program record of 14 victories achieved in 1991.

Tucker stayed undefeated in Region 4AAAAAA play and improved its overall record to 5-1 with a 54-12 region road win at Mundy’s Mill on Sept. 29. Taurean Taylor rushed for 164 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Darick Stephenson had two rushing scores while David Davis also had a TD on the ground. Miles Bowens had a touchdown reception for the Tigers.

Tucker visits Lovejoy in a region contest on Friday. Tucker has won the previous four meetings including last year’s 29-26 win.

Stephenson has also been perfect in Region 4AAAAAA contests this season including a 27-0 road win at Jonesboro on Sept. 29. Deondre Jackson rushed for a team-high 193 yards and a touchdown for the Jaguars in the victory. Stephenson has now won its last four games after starting the year 0-2.

The Jaguars host region foe Drew on Friday. Stephenson won last season’s game 55-22 in the lone lifetime meeting between the two programs.

Marist stayed undefeated through its first six games of the season with a 39-14 non-region home win over Gainesville on Sept. 29. Charlie Addicks rushed for a team-high 61 yards and a touchdown in the win. Chase Abshier and Ellis Pearson also had rushing TDs. Abshier threw two touchdown passes, one each to Dean Johnson and Addicks. Adam Pozzobon recovered a fumble in the end zone for a Marist touchdown as well.

The War Eagles will open Region 7AAAA play on Friday at home against West Hall. Marist won last year’s contest 43-3 in the lone lifetime meeting between the two teams.

Lakeside hosts Norcross in a Region 7AAAAAAA contest on Friday. The Vikings dropped its region home contest to Central Gwinnett 38-36 on Sept. 29 despite a game-high 232 rushing yards and two touchdowns from Max Guggemos. Matthew Holt and Blake Miccichi each threw a touchdown pass for Lakeside.

The Vikings lost last season’s contest to Norcross 42-10 in the first lifetime meeting between the two schools.

Cross Keys visits Clarkson on Friday. The Indians fell 28-0 at Pataula Charter on Sept. 29. Clarkston holds a 21-4 lifetime series lead over Cross Keys and won last year’s game 42-0.

Dunwoody will host Pope in a Region 7AAAAAA contest on Friday. The Tigers look to rebound from a 35-13 region home loss to Northview on Sept. 29. Dunwoody dropped last season’s contest to Pope 49-7 in the lone lifetime meeting of the two programs.

Region 5AAAAA will have action this weekend starting with Arabia Mountain hosting Columbia on Friday. The Rams trail the lifetime series 4-1 but won last year’s game 51-18.

Miller Grove will host Southwest DeKalb on Friday. The Wolverines are coming off of an 18-16 win against Lakeside in a non-region contest on Sept. 15. The Panthers won a non-region contest as well, defeating Rockdale County 42-25 at home on Sept. 23. Southwest DeKalb leads the lifetime series over Miller Grove including last year’s 40-0 victory.

Chamblee hosts Lithonia on Saturday. Chamblee leads the lifetime series 10-5 but Lithonia has won the last four contests including last year’s 35-0 victory.

Decatur visits Banneker in a Region 6AAAAA contest on Friday. The Bulldogs earned a 48-21 region home win over Grady on Sept. 22. Decatur lost last year’s game to Banneker 6-0 in the first lifetime meeting.

Other home contests this weekend include Redan against Lovett, Stone Mountain against Towers and St. Pius X versus Oconee County.

Druid Hills is off this week after dropping its Region 4AAAA contest to North Clayton 56-14 on Sept. 29.
