A body found May 29, at the Atlantic Newtown Apartments off Nesbit Ferry Road has been identified as Mercedes Chico-Sims, who was reported missing in Johns Creek.
On May 29 shortly after 10 a.m., officers responded to the Atlantic Newtown Apartments at 9230 Nesbit Ferry Road in response to the report of a deceased person.
Maintenance personnel located the victim lying near the complex pool and called 911. It was determined that the body was that of a female, aged late teens to early twenties. Based on the manner in which the body was found, this was classified a suspicious death.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the deceased as 17-year-old Mercedes Chico-Sims. Chico-Sims is the same individual who was reported missing in Johns Creek. The Chico-Sims family requests privacy during this difficult time.
Shortly before this discovery, the Johns Creek Police Department initiated a missing person investigation. The missing person was reported to be a female in this age range. Johns Creek officers responded to the apartment complex to assist the Roswell Police Department with the investigation.
Elijah Foster, an 18-year-old Roswell resident, has been arrested and charged with Concealing the Death of Another in connection with this case. Foster was also charged with additional offenses unrelated to this investigation.
"The victim and suspect were acquaintances," Roswell P.D. Sgt. Noah Caplan said. "This was not a stranger on stranger crime or random act of violence."
This investigation is still ongoing and new developments will be reported as they occur.
