Art lovers now have another reason to visit City Springs, the mixed-use development in Sandy Springs which features a performing arts center and programmable outdoor venue. Before kicking off its new City Green Live free concert series, the city of Sandy Springs recently officially debuted the new outdoor sculpture gallery at City Springs as part of ArtSS in the Open, an arts initiative between the city and Art Sandy Springs, a nonprofit dedicated to the inclusion of public art in the community. Nine pieces were selected from a national competition to be on display for 10 months. The theme for the inaugural competition is “Inspired. By Nature.” ArtSS in the Open highlights the sculpture gallery as it changes artists each season as part of the annual competition. A juried panel selected the nine sculptures to be on display from 135 submissions from artists across the country. The nine finalists receive an honorarium for the exhibition, and all the art is for sale. City Green Live, which started with the Grammy Award-winning bluegrass band Steep Canyon Rangers, includes 10 Friday night performances and will close with Atlanta native and folk-rock singer Shawn Mullins Sept. 27.
