Barbara Blackwell not only has a newly-designed sparkly dining room for her Acworth home, it also accurately describes her personality.
The upbeat sales director has a newfound lease on life now that she’s single and an empty nester. With more time and leeway to entertain her friends, Barbara wanted a change for her dining room to match her personality and transitioning life.
“I love to entertain and needed something that mirrored my current lifestyle,” she said.
Having a friend who just so happens to be an interior designer doesn’t hurt. Keela Richard of Kay’s Decor & Interiors transformed the dining room in a matter of weeks and gave the room a fresh and lighter tone.
Keela started with the mirror and worked from there. While there was some debate, they decided to keep the original dining room table and were able to find chairs whose legs matched perfectly.
Speaking of chairs, Keela went for some distinction there. The two on each end are different from the other four — which gives is a bit of personality, to say the least.
There were definitely three items in the room that stood out the most: the large mirror, the light fixture and the table’s centerpiece.
“The mirror was my statement piece because I know she likes sparkly things, and has a big personality and is a fun person to be around,”
Keela has redesigned just about every room in Barbara’s home, yet the shock of seeing this makeover still had her a bit emotional.
“I first saw the reflection of the light fixture in the mirror, which was breathtakingly gorgeous — and I was just floored,” said Barbara. “Then I go over to the window treatments and touch them, I notice the picture which looks like it’s floating in the frame and make my way over to the glass lamps. Every day I go on a journey.”
And she’s gotten some good use out of her new space, having hosted a French continental breakfast and a dinner for friends shortly after the project was completed.
“I’ve been entertaining a lot,” said Barbara. “And now that I have the time, that’s what I love to do — just entertain, laugh and share.”
