We’ve made it to September! Fall is great for many reasons: football, sweaters, boots and scarves and the beauty of the changing landscape. I have to make a mental note to get out this year and take some photos of the changing leaves that will be appearing soon.
Every year around this time I’m always amazed at how fast the time goes by and have the realization that the year is almost up.
But while we’re looking to enjoy the last little bit of summer — fall begins September 22! — this would be a good time to check-in on our list of goals or calls-to-action that we may have set in the beginning of the year. Don’t give up, there’s still plenty of time to get some things done. And I don’t think anyone would fault you if you have to push some items off until 2018 — just don’t make it a habit.
Let’s get real for a moment: have you accomplished the things you set out to do this year, or even this summer? Did you even make a list? Don’t feel bad if you didn’t, I’ve been slacking on mine as well. Wait, let me be completely honest — I’ve failed. Life can get in the way and we tend to get overwhelmed with everyday responsibilities. And often, we dwell in the space of “shoulda, woulda, coulda” instead of “did.”
I’ve been stuck in a routine of getting up, heading to work, then heading home. Only to repeat the same cycle Monday through Friday, without so much as placing a dent into the goals and things that I really want to do.
So I’m going to put myself out there and hope that you all help hold me accountable with my list of goals and I can do the same for you. We can all pay it forward and help each other, as well as our family and friends.
- Publishing my website — honestly what good is a writer who hasn’t carved out her own space on the Web?
- Reading — I’ve been somewhat hoarding books for the past year or two and I just keep adding more without so much as making a dent into the pile. So I want to challenge myself to at least try to read one a month.
- Photography — I will say that I have had plenty of opportunities with work to work on my photography skills, but it’s still not where I’d like it to be. And as they say, practice makes perfect.
That’s it. I’m going to keep this short as not to burden myself with too many things to accomplish by the end of the year. I hope this has encouraged you to take inventory of the things you’d like to get done either by summer’s end or by December. And remember, if you need a bit of encouragement, I’m always here to cheer you on!
