Pope’s Hudson Standfest will remain a member of a canine family.
The 6-foot, 190-pound kicker will trade his Pope powder blue uniform for the navy blue of the Samford Bulldogs starting in the fall.
Standfest made his announcement Wednesday on Twitter.
“IT’S OFFICIAL!! 100% Committed,” he tweeted. “Super excited for the next 4 Years.”
Standfest is coming off a season in which he was 2-of-6 on field goals and 23-of-27 on extra points. He connected on a 52-yard field goal against Walton, and he helped Pope to a 4-4 season.
As a junior in 2019, Standfest was 8-of-11 on field goals and 25-of-27 on extra points.
Standfest is considered a 4½-star prospect by kicking guru Chris Sailer.
“Hudson is a very good high school kicking prospect,” Sailer said on his website. “He is a great looking athlete with nice future college potential. Hudson does a great job on field goals. He gets the ball up well off the ground and has 50+ yard range. His kickoffs are solid. Also a developing punter.”
This year, Standfest punted 11 times for Pope, with a 37.1-yard average and a county-long effort of 68 yards — a mark he shared with Marietta’s Ryan Chestnut.
Standfest will join a Samford team that has three kickers on its 2021 spring roster, including senior Grant Urenovitch. Mitchell Fineran, the Bulldogs’ incumbent starter, will be a senior in the fall following a second-team all-Southern Conference season in 2019.
Standfest could be one of five Cobb County products at Samford in the fall, along with quarterback Will Hudson (Sprayberry), wide receiver Chandler Smith (Walton), defensive lineman Emmett Taliaferro (Mount Paran Christian) and defensive lineman Justin Hayes (Campbell).
