The Cobb Young Professionals (CYP), the Cobb Chamber of Commerce’s networking group for professionals in their 20s and 30s, named the winners of the 2018 Next Generation Award at the August First Monday Breakfast.

The winners were A.J. Brooks of WellStar Medical Group and Emily McMillan of Nothing Bundt Cakes.

The 2018 recipients were selected from a group of nominees who are active within the community, essential to their profession and offer a unique perspective. Both winners demonstrate the potential to be prominent leaders within the Cobb community.

A.J. Brooks

As assistant vice president of operations for WellStar Medical Group, Brooks has been recognized as one of the top performers in the company each year in the overall satisfaction of team members.

His success within his role, ability to foster relationships and overall work ethic resulted in Candice Saunders, the CEO and president of WellStar Health System, selecting him to participate in Leadership GHA with the Georgia Hospital Association.

He has been heavily involved in CYP over the years, participating as a mentee in the 2015-2016 Next Generation Mentoring Program and is currently serving as an active member of the Steering Committee for CYP. He also serves as vice chairman for the young professional committee of the Center of Family Resources and serves as a mentor for both the Health Career Academy – Atlanta program and Benjamin E. Mays High School.

Emily McMillan

McMillan is the youngest general manager and operations partner in the history of the national franchise, Nothing Bundt Cakes.

Not only is she a young professional running an entire store, but also she understands and redefines the lines of leadership. McMillan creates a positive workplace for all employees by promoting personal and professional development, going above and beyond to make her team feel appreciated and most of all, encouraging community involvement.

She serves as an ambassador for the Cobb Chamber and is an active member of CYP. She leads her store’s community involvement through making donations, raising money for campaigns and committing many volunteer hours to several local nonprofits, police departments, fire departments, schools, churches and most hospitals throughout Cobb County.

CYP is dedicated to the promotion and encouragement of young professionals in the workplace. Monthly meetings are held to network with other young professionals and feature various guest speakers bi-monthly on topics that can influence their job performance and careers.

Chase Bank is the Next Generation Award sponsor. Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is the Yearlong Presenting Sponsor of CYP.
