Lance Reddick, an actor best known for his roles on The Wire and the John Wick franchise, has died. He was 60 years old.
According to TMZ, police confirmed Reddick's body was found at his home in Los Angeles on Friday, March 17 in the morning. The cause of death has not been released yet, but sources told the publication that the death appears to be of natural causes.
Days before his death, the actor was doing press for John Wick: Chapter 4. His final interview was with Screen Rant, alongside co-star Ian McShane. Reddick was supposed to be a guest on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Thursday, March 23 with McShane.
Reddick's career began in the 1990s, with small roles in The Nanny and The West Wing. He received his first breakout role in Oz, as Johnny Basil, an undercover cop who enters the prison to bust a drug trade. The actor also had a recurring role in Law & Order: SVU as Dr. Taylor, an assistant medical examiner.
In 2002, Reddick received his first starring TV role as Cedric Daniels in The Wire. When the hit series ended, Reddick took on the role of Matthew Abaddon on Lost, appearing in four episodes. He also had a starring role in Bosch as Deputy Chief Irvin Irving, which earned him a Saturn Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor on Television.
His biggest film role was in the John Wick franchise as Charon, the titular character's concierge.
Reddick is survived by his wife Stephanie Day and children, Yvonne Nicole Reddick and Christopher Reddick.
Upon the news of his death, many of Reddick's Hollywood peers took to social media to pay their respects to the late actor.Â
Ben Stillerwrote, "Lance Reddick was an beautiful and compelling actor. And a beautiful person. He worked with my mom Anne Meara in her play Afterplay, playing Raziel, the waiter slash angel of death. He was exquisite in that and all he did. Nothing is lost."
While Questlove simply wrote, "I can’t take it no more. rip Lance Reddick."
And director James Gunn poignantly penned, "Lance Reddick was an incredibly nice guy, and an incredibly talented actor. This is heartbreaking. My love goes out to all his family, friends, and collaborators."
