STONE MOUNTAIN — A police K-9 that was wounded in a shootout in Georgia that left a suspect dead is out of an animal hospital.
DeKalb police spokeswoman Michaela Vincent tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the K-9, named Django, was released Saturday.
The dog underwent two surgeries after it was shot in the pelvic area during an exchange of gunfire earlier in the week between officers and a suspect near Stone Mountain east of Atlanta.
The suspect, identified as Akinyia Malik Jerome Gray, was shot and killed by officers. Police said Gray had outstanding warrants on suspicion of possessing a firearm as a felon, obstructing justice and being involved in a hit-and-run.
Django has been with the DeKalb County police department for six years.
