GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) — A fire department in Georgia says a father and his 9-year-old son were killed when their mobile home became engulfed in flames over the weekend.

Hall County Fire Services Division Chief Zach Brackett told news outlets firefighters responded to reports of heavy smoke and flames coming from a mobile home on Sunday morning. Brackett said that when crews extinguished the fire, they discovered the bodies of 40-year-old Jesse Hinds Sr. and his son, Jesse Hinds Jr., inside.

Brackett said the cause of the blaze hasn’t been determined, and the county fire marshal's office is still investigating.

A spokesman for the Hall County school district said Jesse Hinds Jr. was a third-grader at Mount Vernon Elementary in Gainesville. Grief counselors will be available on Monday morning.
