DOUGLASVILLE — With the 300th win in its program’s history at stake, South Cobb did more than enough to prove that Friday would be the night the milestone came to pass.

Chauncey Ingram ran for three touchdowns, and quarterback Stephon Masha added two of his own as the Eagles held Douglas County at bay for a 35-19 road victory.

Now 2-0 for the season, South Cobb’s all-time record moved to 300-305-13 since its launch in 1952.

“It’s the 60th year of the school, so we are celebrating our 60th anniversary, and to reach 300 wins this year is special,” South Cobb coach Ed Koester said. “I’m very happy for our kids that they got a chance to be a part of that.”

Already owning an eight-point lead in the third quarter, the Eagles quickly extended their margin with a 3-yard touchdown run by Masha for a 21-6 advantage with 6:19 to go. Ingram highlighted the drive with consecutive 12-yard runs and a 14-yard sprint.

“I’m very happy with our kids,” Koester said. “We had some individuals who played extremely well, but this is a team effort. Nobody does well as an individual without the other 10 doing their job. We had some great blocks. The offensive line worked real hard this week.”

South Cobb widened the gap between itself and Douglas County (1-1) early in the fourth quarter, thanks largely to a 45-yard interception return by Jordan Harton to the Tigers’ 3-yard line.

“We’re very happy for Jordan,” Koester said. “I’m always excited for the defense when they can get the ball back for us. Any time they turn the ball over that is great.”

On the next play, Ingram powered his way into the end zone for a 28-6 lead with 10:09 left.

After Ellis Richardson found Anthony Graves for a 37-yard touchdown pass to move the Tigers closer, Ingram came through for South Cobb once again. This time, the senior highlighted the three-play drive with a 27-yard run, then capped it with a 42-yard sprint up the middle for a 35-13 advantage.

Harton picked off Richardson one more time in the frame, before Richardson later scored from 2 yards out to only make the score appear closer than it really was.

In the first half, Ingram and Masha had 22- and 12-yard scoring runs, respectively, to give the Eagles a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Juanya Smith got Douglas County on the board with a 1-yard run just before the break.

The game was the last of South Cobb’s brief non-region schedule. Region 4AAAAAA play begins for the Eagles next week at Kennesaw Mountain.
