Mr. James ‘Jim’ Carlton Porterfield, age 89, of Douglasville, GA passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014.  He was born December 29, 1924 in Athens, GA.  He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Merchant Marines.  Mr. Porterfield was the top salesman with Liberty Life Insurance, winning numerous awards.  After retiring, he loved his job at Walmart.  He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan and he loved to play the spoons.  Mr. Porterfield was a member of First Baptist Church of Douglasville. Mr. Porterfield was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Daisy Patrick Porterfield; son, J. Michael Porterfield; two great-grandsons, Hunter and Joshua Bershinsky; sister, Hazel Leverette; and a brother-in-law, Sam Leverette. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67½ years, Madeline Porterfield; daughter, Olivia Kimmeth and husband Denny; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Porterfield; grandchildren, Shelbie Moore, Brandon Moore and wife Leslie, Olivia Proffitt and husband Jason, Lydia Goodson and husband Shannon; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Madeline, Kelsey, Kacy, Casin, Payton, Allie, Emma Pearl; two nieces, Sondra Cooley and Mimi Barnes and husband Tommy; four great-nieces and three great-nephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, April 18, 2014 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.  The funeral service will be Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Rosehaven Chapel with Dr. John Pennington officiating.  Interment will follow at Rosehaven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Porterfield’s memory to First Baptist Church of Douglasville, 5900 Prestley Mill Road, Douglasville, GA 30135.
