Thomas A. Akin
Thomas ‘Tom’ A. Akin died Tuesday April 8, 2014. Tom was born in Ashburn, Georgia on May 6, 1925. He never expected to live to be 88.927, but we were thankful to have him in our lives for all that time.  Tom was a graduate of Georgia Tech and served in the US Navy. A Mechanical Engineer, he earned the PE designation in 1975. He worked for Lockheed Georgia and was a key engineer in the design of major aircraft landing gear. He also worked for Scientific Atlanta, contributing his expertise to developing structures and mobility for satellite dish technology. He also used his engineering skills at home, making several beautiful pieces of furniture and toys that have provided smiles to children all around. Many of his contributions are still in place at the Smyrna library. Tom never met a young child he didn’t like! Tom is survived by his wife, Annie Laura Sims Akin; his son, Allen Akin and his wife, Michelle Arden; and his daughter, Laura Akin and his ‘favorite son-in-law’, Steve Sneller. He waited a long time for grandchildren and thoroughly enjoyed visits with his granddaughters, Laurel and Clare Akin, daughters of Allen and Michelle. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Georgia Public Broadcasting System. Castellaw Funeral Home, Smyrna Ga. 770-435-9038. Sign the online guestbook at: www.castellawfuneralhome.com

Dear Annie Laura,

My hear reaches out to you love and sympathy, and to your family , in Tom's death and Homegoing. He was a good man, and a dear friend. Well do I remember that he warmly welcomed us when we first came to Parc.

It was always a joy to see him, because he beamed with pleasure. That warmth radiated to all who knew him.

His positive outlook witnessed to his strong faith; and I am sure he will enjoy heaven.

You are in my prayers because you are in my love.

Charles and Ann Sineath
