Mary Jean Whitfield, 95, died on January 23, 2014.  She influenced many, and while her passing is a great celebration of a life well lived in Christ, she will be deeply missed. Mrs. Whitefield was a lifelong resident of the Marietta area. She was a member of Marietta First Baptist where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and as a member of the Library staff.   Mary Jean was a founding member of the Anne Hathaway Garden Club.  She retired from The Marietta Federal Bank. Mary Jean was preceded in death by her husbands; Howard Adair and Tom Whitfield; her parents: Jesse and Mary Upshaw; siblings: Elizabeth Townsend, Petty, James and Jakie Upshaw, and nephew, Mal Upshaw. A memorial service will be held at the Marietta First Baptist

Church Chapel on Saturday, January 25th, at 2:00 pm.  Officiating will be Dr. Brian Upshaw, Dr. Bryan Whitfield, Dr. Bill Ross and Rev. Dean Hunter.  A graveside service will be 1:00 pm Saturday at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Marietta First Baptist Church building or library fund.  Family will receive friends in the chapel parlor following the memorial service. Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta will be handling the arrangements. 770-428-1511.
