John Raymond Hocking, 57, of Marietta, GA died July 4, 2013. John graduated from Greece Arcadia High School in Rochester, NY with the class of 1973. He was a graduate of Monroe Community College and the Rochester Institute of Technology. He was president of Vertex, Inc. a computer consulting firm. John honorably served as a Master Captain in the Coast Guard and was a member of the American Professional Captain’s Association. His love for the outdoors included fishing and hunting and he was a proud member of Safari Club International. He was chairman of the ProAm Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Golf Tournament for the past 21 years. His loyalty, generosity and sense of humor will be greatly missed by friends and family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Arlene Hocking; sister, Cindy Sabin of Chisholm, MN; sister-in-law, Jo Helen Ray of Rochester, NY; aunts, Barbara Christenson and Beverly Leathers; uncle, Rudy (Elberta) Christenson all of Hibbing, MN; nephews, Mark and Ryan Ray; great nephews and nieces and several cousins; and his beloved Labradors, Annie and Kindl. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 3401 Lower Roswell Rd Marietta, GA 30068. The family will receive friends half an hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Children’s Health Care of Atlanta, Children’s Foundation, Park North, 1577 Northeast Expressway Suite A, Atlanta GA 30329.
