Beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, John Van Loan of Marietta, Georgia, went home to be with his Savior on Thursday, June 20, 2013. He is survived by his father, a brother, sister, foster brother, grandmother, two nephews, several aunts and uncles and loving friends. He was predeceased by his mother, stepmother and grandparents. John was a registered nurse with a degree from Montana State University and was most recently self-employed as a Supervising Medic with an Atlanta-based film production team and member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Employees. He lived in cities in Georgia and Montana. John loved to help people. His career included emergency care with Bigfork Quick Response Unit in Montana, critical care with LifeStar flight team and Trauma Center of Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah and a number of critical care positions with hospitals throughout Georgia. John played the piano from a very young age and was an accomplished pianist and music writer- regularly playing in churches throughout his life as well as performing solos and accompanying vocalists. He had a passion for people and animals, was especially compassionate and advocated for those with challenges or limitations. He received recognition for his volunteer work and civic service throughout his life, beginning at the age of 14 with a state Volunteer of-the-Year Award. Along with hours of hospital and church volunteer work, John’s teen years included volunteering as a page on Capitol Hill and serving as a lifeguard for church youth camps.
