SAVANNAH - A Savannah man has been convicted of murder in the shooting deaths of two men killed in 2006 at a softball field in Liberty City.

A local newspaper reported that a Chatham County Superior Court jury convicted Marcus Fennell of two murder charges, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during commission of a felony.

Jurors returned the verdict late Friday.

Judge Michael Karp delayed sentencing, but the murder charge carries a mandatory life prison sentence.

The charges stemmed from the Aug. 31, 2006, shooting deaths of Martial Washington and Andrew Coleman, both 19.

Police have said the shootings were drug related.
