Cobb County officials announced Monday afternoon that County Manager David Hankerson will recommend Deputy Chief John Houser to the Board of Commissioners Tuesday morning as his choice for the county's next police chief.

Houser has been with the county since 1981 and currently heads the uniform side of the Cobb County Police Department. Hankerson, Chairman Tim Lee and a panel of prominent county figures interviewed Houser and the position's second candidate, Deputy Chief Ron Storey, last week. Storey manages the department's detective operations.

Houser, if approved by the Board of Commissioners, will replace former Police Chief George Hatfield, who retired from his position in late April after taking advantage of the county's retirement incentive. Houser and Storey have managed the day-to-day operations of the police department since Hatfield's retirement.

Now that Mickey Lloyd is gone, if Cobb County will get rid of County Manager David Hankerson, Cobb County Police Department will be a Great and Honorable Department again.
