While open border activists bemoan the injuries of an escaped hit and run driver in Kennesaw last Thursday, stupidly trying to shift blame and attention away from the accident he caused onto Cobb Sheriff Neil Warren, all I could think of was national security.

Luis Quintana, who has a prior criminal record, ran from the law near Barrett Lakes Blvd. despite serious injuries. He ditched his critically injured companion after running a stop sign and colliding with a commercial vehicle.

But did he run, injuries and all, solely because of Wild West Warren and his Big Stick #287g, the way the open borders roosters are crowing?

Or was it something more? You never know these days.

I believe it's time for us regular people to start thinking bigger on this immigration issue, even locally. Beyond the problems created in our schools and hospitals, there's the narco-insurgency that's bringing Mexico's bloodshed into U.S. neighborhoods. And that pesky nexus with our war on terrorism that few journalists want to reveal.

We can't deny the drug cartels are here. They've practically taken over whole areas of Texas and Arizona, and Gwinnett isn't far behind. For years immigration stories have focused on people searching for a better life and doing jobs we wouldn't do (notice how that one's not used much lately).

All the while, few dots were connected for us on the dangerous gangs and cartel activity moving freely around our country. Incidents were reported as isolated. But no more.

Stashes of money and drugs, home invasions, kidnappings and third-world type murders are on the rise wherever these non-citizen criminals are. We're finally hearing about them, and if you don't believe it's a problem, you must be Rich Pellegrino - our local, well-meaning, can't-we-all-just-love-each-other activist.

I'm sorry Rich, I wish I could live in your reality awhile, but that's not my job.

To my Zeta (sorority) sisters such as Jill McMillan and Connie Forestner, did you know Zetas in Arizona have nothing to do with Wednesday night socials or the Milledge Avenue party house?

Zetas on our border are militant forces trained initially by our own special ops professionals. They later went rogue, joined the Gulf drug cartel and then split after a whole bunch of bloodshed. Now they operate close to and even inside our borders, their weapons and tactics formidable against law enforcement and the clearly inadequate troop strength Obama finally approved.

Officials just south of our border recently seized 57 pounds of gel explosives, and the first known Mexican car bomb was used to lure security forces and paramedics, then detonated, probably with a cell phone. Sound familiar? Fragmentation grenades have been confirmed in this border war and weapons caches reminiscent of Fallujah have been found coming into the U.S.

And that's not the worst of it.

If you missed the fantastic WSB-TV 2Investigates series that appeared in May about terrorists on our southern borders, you should go find it online.

Cobb county resident Brad Stone, a senior producer who worked in Manhattan on Sept. 11, 2001, spearheaded Channel 2's report, which uncovered documents that even members of Congress' Homeland Security Committee had never seen, revealing that hundreds of O.T.M.s (other than Mexicans) caught on our border are from terrorist countries.

How did 12 Afghanis, some Yemenis and a bunch of Djiboutians find that line in our southern sand? Something tells me they're not here to work in our chicken houses.

It was also revealed most-wanted terrorists such as Adnan the Pilot - Adnan Shukrajumah - are among those suspected of using the border to gain access.

Christopher Carson in FrontPageMag.com writes in detail about this threat. His piece "America in Ashes?" outlines details on the supply chain terrorists use through Mexico, and explains Adnan's American Hiroshima Plot. Adnan, by the way, was known to have been in Atlanta just prior to 9/11. Don't dwell too long on that Hiroshima thing, or you'll have nightmares.

Of course there is so much more, but we don't get half of it. Because Democrats need Latinos to retain their power.

And Luis, wherever he is, might...might just be a nice guy. But I doubt it.

Great column, Laura. Keep writing about topics like this, and maybe some of it will sink in to the kumbaya crowd and we will finally get something done about the border!

Hey Laura,... THANKS for reporting the truth! My previous comment was censored,... guess I'll (soften) this one so it gets in. It's a mystery why the MDJ censors comments like they do. It's unfortunate that we aren't keeping accurate count of how many Americans have lost their lives to illegal aliens. We keep track of soldiers killed in wars,... what's the diff? Again, thanks Laura,... we appreciate you!

There is a much bigger and clearer picture that is the foundation of all of the other littler pictures that abound around us.

The simple truth lies in the proven fact that the elected leaders of our government continue to send our brave young warriors to risk their lives and limbs fighting terrorists on foreign soil while they allow other terrorists of the same yolk to maim and kill their families, their wives and their children on their home soil, without taking any substantitive action to stop such actions. In fact, they continue to discuss ways and means to grant those terrorists permanent residence in our home communities.

It has become self-evident that the only reason this war on terrorists in foreigh lands continues is because our leaders at home do not want it to end. When you seek answers to almost any pressing question these days. the only way to discover the truth is to follow the money flow.

The only people who are more stupid that those who would send our children off to be physically or mentally maimed, or to die horrible deaths, are those who allow them to do so. They can only do to you what you let them do.

We buried one of those brave young warriors here in Geioria yeaterday. Did we learn anything from that experience?

Thanks, Laura, for touching on some truth! We are losing America to criminals, 3rd world invaders & an outside force hellbent on destroying us,.. & the media just doesn't want to report the facts of what is happening. Why are Americans so afraid to protect our country? Why are Americans so afraid to speak out?? Why is the media so afraid to run these stories on the front page? When will we find out the immigration status of Cuauctemoc Rosas,... the wrong way driver that ran headon into the DUI Cobb Police Captain Gallton in Douglasville, last nite? It will probably be LOST in the story of the DUI arrest of the captain. We are on the verge of having nothing left to protect! And yes, from all the hit & run illegals.. up to the drug cartel & extreme Islamic radicals- it's all happening to break us down! Illegal immigration costs the United States about 113 BILLION a year-BILLION--w/ 52 billion of that going to teaching 'anchor babies'. Our schools are a mess. Our hospitals bend over backwards to accomidate illegals! Our city governments IGNORE their crumbeling neighborhoods & our infrastrucure is rundown & outdated! Americans can't find jobs, while illegals continue to infiltrate more & more industries, including the constuction , resturant & landscape businesses. HOW can we compete w/ Brazil, Abu Dhabi, China & Mexico, if we continue to be so weak?? They are all laughing @ us as we fall!

Our Village Big Thinker, Rich Pellegrino, blamed our Sheriff for illegal aliens and their criminal activity. That's a good one. Whose fault is it that the child rapist in Fulton County escaped during his trial?
a great column

Thanks for another great column. Missed the Channel 2 story and plan to find it on the internet. In the meantime, appreciate you writing about it. We need to stop this free-flow of humans at the border but bet there will be nothing of any consequence done unless the drug cartels set up business on the White House lawn.
