JoAnn Birrell, one of the three GOP candidates for District 3 Cobb commissioner, will be the beneficiary of a fundraiser on July 15 at Social Vinings. The event will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is sponsored by her Leadership Cobb Class of 2005. Visit her website or facebook page for more details.

For yard signs, send an e-mail to joann@joanncan.com. Birrell says visit her website to donate online and sign up to volunteer for her campaign at www.JoAnnCan.com.

"I am also looking for supporters to go door to door with me in East Cobb neighborhoods," she said. "I would love to have you join the fun." ...

Architect Stephen Moon, who is also seeking the District 3 commission seat, recently spoke to three area neighborhood groups - the annual meeting of the Piedmont Chase Homeowners Association, and to neighborhood leaders in Independence Square, off Providence Road, and Post Oak Square, off Post Oak Tritt Road.

At Independence Square, Moon was asked his approach to the WellStar development proposed for Providence Road at Roswell Road.

"As Commissioner, I would give a greater voice to the closest affected neighbors and the area homeowner group. Development is not always a bad thing. The WellStar project would bring great jobs and nicer development to our community. I would advise you to identify a spokesperson, keep your group informed, and fight to control noise, light pollution and to keep most traffic on the main road," Moon said.

At Piedmont, he discussed his experience in redevelopment, and ideas for aging retail centers such as Sprayberry Crossing Shopping Center, targeted by the county as a prime redevelopment opportunity.
