The Georgia Utilities Contractors Association, Inc. has awarded its 2010 Golden Shovel Legislative Service Award to Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock).

"The men and women of GUCA believe in free markets and competition. I stand with them," Rogers said in a statement issued through the Senate press office.

In the same statement, GUCA leaders said Rogers was selected because of his longstanding support for Georgia utility contractors and that he "played an integral role in passing favorable legislation for GUCA in the 2010 Legislative Session, including SB 339, GUCA's legislation that allows utility contractors to directly bid on utility construction work ... and specifically helped carry legislation to help reduce the property tax burden for heavy equipment operators."

GUCA is a nonprofit state trade association. Representing more than 308 utility contractors and affiliated firms statewide, GUCA members provide the materials and workforce to build and maintain the state's network of water, sewer, gas, telecommunications and other utility systems. CARRY ON: GeorgiaCarry.org Executive Director Jerry Henry said, "We appreciate Judson's continued support of the Second Amendment and protecting our individual right to self defense as reflected by your votes while serving in the Georgia General Assembly."

Hill has also been endorsed by the National Federation of Independent Businesses.

Lynda Coker is challenging Hill in the Republican primary on July 20.

Saxby endorses Wiles: U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss has endorsed state Sen. John Wiles, a Kennesaw Republican seeking to hold onto his seat despite a serious challenge from Lindsey Tippins in the GOP primary.

"I am backing John not just because he is a leader for conservatives at the State Capitol, but because he is my friend. Not only is he my good friend, he has politically supported me in my career and in 2008 throughout my campaign at events and rallies whenever I was in the Cobb area," Chambliss is quoted in a statement released by Wiles' office.

el paso seems believe that any legislation that enforces our immigration laws is "Hateful" to Hispanics. Get over it and go apply for a green card. Get in line like everybody else. Illegal immigration is not tolorated in Hispanics countries and is WILL NOT be tolerated here in the USA!

Agree with you, el paso. This guy is an embarassment and we've got to get him out of office in November.

What about the two and half million dollars he is trying to beat the bank out of? What about shifting public school money to vouchers for private school, to benefit rich people {his kids go to private school}. What about the hate legislation against Hispanics?
