Rep. Rob Teilhet, author of "The Johnia Berry Act," continues to fight for an expanded DNA database while campaigning to be Georgia's next Attorney General. Rep. Teilhet introduced legislation during the 2010 General Assembly that would have expanded Georgia's current DNA database to include samples collected upon felony arrest. The bill failed to pass the legislature because of Georgia's extreme budget shortfalls. However, last month the U.S. House passed HR 4614, "The Katie Sepich Enhanced DNA Collection Act," giving states who collect DNA upon arrest an extra 10 percent in JAG-Burne funding.

"Twenty-one other states and the federal government have passed a bill similar to HB 1033. With its passage have come studies that clearly prove that this law will prevent murders and rapes from happening," Rep. Teilhet said. "As Georgia's next Attorney General, I will continue to fight for an expanded DNA database. Our law enforcement officers deserve every tool available to them to keep our families safe."

This is great!!!! Maybe this will aid in helping people with missing children and to identify remains found. My son has been missing for almost six years. It took me forever to get my DNA into CODIS.I will always wonder if his remains were found and never identifyed, then done away with before my DNA was put into the system.
