In the race to become the Republican nominee for state attorney general, a new Insider Advantage/Rosetta Stone poll of likely Republican Primary voters shows Max Wood, former U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, leading former Cobb Commission Chairman Sam Olens 18 percent to 15 percent. State Sen. Preston Smith (R-Rome) pulled in 7 percent.

A previous poll, taken in April before Smith entered the race, gave Wood a 1-percent lead.

"Voters in this state want a proven litigator sitting in the attorney general's seat, not another politician," Wood said upon hearing the poll results.

In related news, Georgia Right to Life has endorsed Smith in the race. Georgia Right to Life endorses candidates who believe abortion should be legal only to save the life of the mother.

"Preston Smith has been and will be, an outstanding advocate for our pro-life issues," Georgia Right to Life President Daniel Becker said following the announcement of the organization's endorsement. "As our attorney general, I am confident Preston Smith will enforce our laws that protect the innocent lives that are lost each year to abortion."

My only response to Max Wood's statement about a proven litigator in the AG spot is exactly how many cases did YOU personally handle and prosecute while serving as an AUSA? Having watched David Nahmias for years, who I admire greatly, most of the work was done by his staff. His position was oversight and management...not the prosecution and argument of cases to judges. Maybe they do things differently in Macon (Middle District) than they do in the Northern District.

Why would anyone expect that Ohlens would lead? A career politician in an era of Tea Parties; a regional Atlanta bureaucrat (ARC), which alienates both non-Atlantans and Atlantans; a personal injury ("ambulance chaser") lawyer; versus a military vet prosecutor. Ohlens is better positioned to run as a Democrat.

Max Wood was also endorsed by Georgia Right to Life, while Sam Olens was not... and I agree with Max that Georgians want an attorney to be Attorney General and not another politician. I know I do. Max has also said that he will fight as Attorney General to protect the unborn.
