In October 2010, Lifestyle reported on the family of Michelle Patterson. The Patterson family needed a handicapped-accessible van because both boys, Malik, 13, and Derek, 16 - both taller than 6 feet - are wheelchair-users. The small two-door family car could hold only one portable wheelchair. Consequently, only one boy could be transported at a time.

Supporters are pleased to announce that the monetary goal was reached and a conversion van found for the family.

Awtrey Middle School and North Cobb High School where the boys attend school participated in fundraising efforts along with Kennesaw-Acworth Lions Club, East Cobb Civitan, Marietta Civitan, and many individuals. Awtrey Middle School's special needs class raised $1,300 and North Cobb raised $1,000. Cobb EMC, the East Cobb and Marietta Civitan Clubs came through with the final dollars.
