State Rep. Rich Golick (R-Smyrna) was among those honored by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce as the recipient of the organization's 2010 Legislator of the Year Awards. The awards are given annually to those who went "above and beyond on behalf of the state's business community" during the previous legislative session, the Chamber says.

Golick faces Democrat Maryline Blackburn of Smyrna in the General Election.

"We are proud to recognize these individuals, each of whom worked to ensure that despite the state's budget challenges important issues such as transportation, education, water, taxes and health care were addressed during the 2010 legislative session," said Haydon Stanley, chair of the Georgia Chamber's Government Affairs Council.

Other 2010 Legislators of the Year are: Sen. Bill Cowsert (R-Athens), Rep. Kevin Levitas (D-Atlanta), Sen. David Shafer (R-Duluth) and Rep. Lynn Smith (R-Newnan).

The Georgia Chamber also recognized retiring legislators Mark Burkhalter (R-Alpharetta) and Jerry Keen (R-St. Simons) with Lifetime Achievement Awards for their efforts on behalf of the business community during their time in public office.

RHODES ENDORSED: Calvin Rhodes, who is challenging state Rep. Sharon Cooper (R-east Cobb) in the Republican primary for a chance to represent District 41, has been endorsed by Georgia Right to Life.

Rhodes has a business background for a paper and plastics distribution company.

GRTL endorsements are based on responses to a candidate survey, voting history if available, and an evaluation of the candidates and their commitment to the cause of life.

Bob Stark, President of the Cobb Right to Life, announced, "As a resident of Georgia House District 41 and President of Cobb Right to Life, I am very happy to recommend Calvin for your vote for the District 41 seat. I have known Calvin for about 15 years and know him as a man of integrity and great character. Calvin has been involved in the Republican Party for many years and understands the needs of the district. He is truly a principled conservative."

Golick doesn't fit his district. He is way too backwards on social issues and transportation issue.
