Read the informative Q&A of candidates for Cobb legislative seats in Sunday’s MDJ (6B-9B) and you’ll see that opinions range all over the landscape. For example, on the question of a light rail system of some sort, various candidates answered “yes,” “no,” and “maybe.”
Ditto for the question of whether MARTA lines should be extended into Cobb or link with a homegrown light rail system. On that point, it seems only common sense that if there is a rail line, it would have to link with MARTA. Otherwise, the county would be looking at a mall-to-mall system that would not be the regional plan needed for federal funds. But “bringing MARTA into Cobb” is anathema to some politicians who say it will result in “demographic” changes.
Of course, candidates can be expected to have different, often opposing views. But the real problem is that the county does not have its own game plan for transportation. Cobb needs to develop a plan. There have been enough studies.
Again, our readers should avail themselves of the opportunity to see what legislative candidates say in their own words about transportation and other issues of concern to Cobb citizens. Then cast an informed vote on election day.
