Goldberg's Bagel Company & Deli, a New York-style deli-restaurant located at 1062 Johnson Ferry Road in Marietta, is in the business of selling the best quality food and service to east Cobb.

"Everything we touch is fresh," said chef/owner Wayne Saxe. "There are no preservatives in our products as much as possible."

Saxe, who emigrated to the U.S. from South Africa in 1993, purchased the business with his partner in December of the same year. It was then known as Goldberg & Son Bagels. Located on Roswell Road in Atlanta, the 2,000-square-foot takeout establishment sold only bagels and sandwiches.

Goldberg's Bagel Company & Deli continues the tradition of making authentic New York-style bagels that are boiled. Unlike the steaming method used by competitors, Goldberg's bagels are baked, producing a crispy outside with soft inside. "This old fashioned method brings out the best quality in the bagel," Saxe explained - quality so good that Goldberg's recently signed a nationwide contract with Whole Foods to supply bagels to all their stores marketed under the Goldberg's name.

But the bagel is just one part of Goldberg's business. "We decided to take the concept to a further place," Saxe said.

Goldberg's diversified the primary bagel and cream cheese business to a great New York-style deli. In addition to traditional deli fare and deli-style sandwiches, Goldberg's offers catering and a unique product line such as chopped liver, smoked white fish, and kippered salmon.

"These are things not available everywhere else," he said.

In order to bring these items to their customers, Goldberg's runs a truck to New York once a week to pick up smoked fish, meat, pickles and ingredients unique to the Big Apple. "No one can give you that freshness like we do," he said. "We believe in the freshest and highest quality products which is very, very important in everything we've done."

Goldberg's five metro Atlanta locations, with a new location in Toco Hills coming soon, are well maintained and provide a good atmosphere. Although Goldberg's is a multi-purpose food store, it is not a chain restaurant.

"You can order anything off the menu in different variations," said Saxe. "We're not so set in the way, in a cookie cutting concept. We're bringing the best quality food to east Cobb because they deserve it."

Goldberg's Deli serves breakfast and lunch from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It will be open for dinner soon. Visit www.goldbergsdeli.net or call (770) 578-3771 for more information.
