Here we go again, another liberal columnist demeaning us and inferring that we are nothing but a bunch of Southern rubes, with Barney Fife for a sheriff, because we believe in the rule of law. He tries to tell us that the illegal immigration issue is just too complex for local law enforcement to comprehend. It is not. It is basic common sense, something liberals seem to lack, in general. "Illegal" is a very simple concept. It means that they are breaking our laws and, therefore, are supposed to be subject to the consequences of those illegal actions. We are either a nation of laws, or we are not. Nobody needs to tell people of common sense what the definition of "is" is.
I'm sure that you all have noticed that the "mainstream" media never uses the term "illegal" when referring to the issue. It is just "immigration" or "immigrants," as if there was no difference between legal and illegal. Apparently there is not, in their perspective. It is always about "fairness," not the rule of law, to these self-righteous buffoons, who think they are the "enlightened intelligentsia" when they are the antithesis of that.
Of course, it is only their definition of fairness that ever matters. It is never about the fairness to the law-abiding, tax-paying, legal citizens of this state or country, who have been stolen from, lied to and cheated, or worse!
Is their double-standard showing? Hypocrisy is not an admirable character trait and liberal logic is an oxymoron.
I say that we start calling these "journalists" and "columnists" exactly what they are: propagandists.
In closing, I will paraphrase from the Lynyrd Skynyrd song "Sweet Home Alabama":
"Well I heard mister Thomasson wrote about us.
Well, I heard ole Dan put us down.
Well, I hope Dan Thomasson will remember
A Southern man don't need him around anyhow!'
....'Now my conscience does not bother me, Dan.
Does your conscience bother you?"

1) Your argument stating "we are either a nation of laws,or we are not" is an example of a fallacy of false dilemma. This generalization does not account for the fact that "laws" are interpreted by the courts (why we have judges and lawyers) or that laws can change(Jim Crow, Miscegenation Laws).
2) Can you provide specific examples of how the "mainstream" media does not use the term "illegal" to refer to undocumented workers? Fox News uses "illegal" and they're the most watched cable news outlet on TV - are they not "mainstream?" NPR uses "persons in the country illegally." In February 2009, the Washington Times began using "illegal immigrant." A Lexis/Nexis search reveals that "illegal alien" was used over five hundred times this past year in major US publications. "Illegal Immigrant" was used over a thousand times this past year in major US publications. I guess it's easier to knock down a straw man than to conduct research.
3)If you don't want to be considered a "rube," don't quote Lynyrd Skynyrd to make a political point.
Regarding the fact that the law abiding U.S. citizen is the only one having to obey laws, I now really believe what my Mother came to say in the business world, "The good man finishes last." That is definitely the case in ALL areas of the U.S. It is a sad & dangerous situation.
