Local Fellowship of Christian Athletes hosted a Ladies' Luncheon at Northstar Church on April 27. The purpose of the event was to share what the 57-year-old ministry has been doing in local high schools and middle schools. It was also designed to show the need for fundraising for a female leader for these campuses.

Mark Tidwell, former varsity baseball coach at the Walker School, is the full-time area director for north, west and south Cobb. Ellen Carmack (Walker School) chaired the luncheon committee along with Carolyn Slay (West Cobb), Lisa Davis (Shiloh Hills), Angela Feldman and Paige Johnson (Mt. Paran), Jackie Adams and Kelly Wright (Harrison), Kaye Milam (North Cobb High School), Stacy Thomas (North Cobb Christian) and Shirley McKinney (Walker).

Nearly 100 ladies attended and were blessed to hear Marilou Braswell, former cheer coach at UGA, share her vision for FCA and the female ministry component. Also sharing were local high school coaches and student athletes. West Cobb Diner provided lunch. FCA encourages parents from all the schools to become involved with the huddles at their campuses.

Congratulations to Ali Egan of Marietta. As of May 7, she's Dr. Alison Egan, having received her M.D. degree with honors from Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

Recently returning from a trip to Europe (Icelandic volcano and all) to celebrate completion of her studies, Dr. Egan begins her residency mid-June in Internal Medicine at Tulane University Hospital in New Orleans, with an aim to specialize in hematology/oncology.

Ali is the daughter of longtime Marietta residents, Lynn and Steve Egan. She graduated from Marietta High School and the University of Georgia. Many hope that eventually her path will lead back to a practice in Cobb County.

Act3 Playhouse, located at 6285-R Roswell Road NE in Atlanta, recently held its grand opening in Sandy Springs. Act3 was started by five east Cobb mothers who volunteered as directors and producers of a play at their children's school nearly 10 years ago. In January, Susan Anderson, Theresa Dean, Patti Mactas, Johnna Mitchell and Lyn Taylor opened Act3 Productions.

Tony-nominated stage, film and TV actress Jayne Atkinson, who was the college roommate of Mactas, artistic director of Act3 Productions, was the special guest at the opening. She spoke to a sold-out audience about the importance of community theatre and shared some of her own experiences. Atkinson is perhaps best known for her role as Karen Hayes on TV's hit show "24."
